How to Sponsor a B.U.D. Garden
It’s not as difficult as you think. You don’t need a green thumb and you won’t get a sore back from weeding!
The Beautification and Urban Design (B.U.D.) Commission has done everything for you. The best sites were chosen along the town entrance corridors. We have received necessary approvals from the Town of Rocky Mount and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Harvey Design Land Architects, Inc. (HDLA), in Lynchburg, was approved to design a garden unique to each garden site. They select flowering plants as well as ornamental grasses and trees that can tolerate drought and traffic pollution.
HDLA seeks bids from pre-qualified landscape contractors and makes an appropriate selection. After the garden is completed, a professional vendor is selected from bids to do the mowing, weeding, and other maintenance to keep the gardens looking their best year ’round.
The only thing left for the sponsor to do is to choose an available B.U.D. Garden site that they feel will best express their pride in the town and support for its beautification. Then fill out an application and return it with your deposit.
For more information, please call the Town of Rocky Mount at 540-483-0907 and a B.U.D. representative will return your call.
